Apple’s annual World Wide Developers Conference took place June 9-13 at Apple Park in Cupertino, California and offered insight into what the tech giant has planned for its numerous device families, its consumer base, and its very identity both now and in the near future.

Overall, a focus on iPhone, iPad, and macOS improvements dominated the conference. AI is one area in which Apple is lagging behind major competitors, which could prove detrimental to its ventures into the VR, AR and MR spaces. That said, Apple Vision Pro and VisionOS are receiving solid updates that expand their use potential and bode well, if modestly, for the longevity of current devices and for future iterations alike.

Update: VisionOS 26
Along with all other Apple operating systems, VisionOS is getting a slight rebranding, appended with a year designation, VisionOS 26. Obviously, there’s more to the update than the name change, though. VisionOS Persona avatars have been refined for a clearer, more defined, and more realistic rendering of participants. Improved reaction animations and face tracking make for more compelling and intimate interactions via Facetime.

Meeting with other users in a 3D space has always been integral to the success of VR and AR. Leading 3D design and engineering software provider Dassault Systémes is bringing Vision Pro users closer to this goal with a new app. 3DLive will allow users to visualize and explore 3D virtual designs both in person or remotely with others.
